[ARTIST ANNOUNCEMENT] – Carl Marah
by: Simon Clark
Introducing Carl Marah – Performing Saturday 28th June 2026 on the Scottish Citylink Discovery Stage at the Heartland Festival.
Born in Dunbar and now based in Edinburgh, Carl Marah is quickly becoming one of Scotland’s most compelling new storytellers. After years spent shaping the psychedelic pop sound of Logan’s Close, Carl has stepped confidently into his own light as a solo artist, bringing with him a striking blend of cinematic atmosphere, lyrical depth and melodic warmth.
Carl’s influences shimmer through his work — echoes of Rodriguez, Donovan and Paul Simon — yet his sound remains distinctly his own. His debut solo single, Siren Song, released in February 2025, introduced listeners to a dreamlike world filled with mood, mystery and a deft narrative touch. Since then, Carl has toured across the UK, winning over audiences in intimate venues with performances that balance tenderness, experimentation and emotional immediacy.
His follow-up single Roll The Dice, produced by Rod Jones of Idlewild, showcases Carl’s fascination with unusual rhythms and left-field grooves. Supported by a charming Edinburgh-set music video, the track has earned recognition from Scottish tastemakers and fuelled the growing momentum around his solo journey.
Live, Carl creates an immersive experience — layered guitars, keys, harmonies and looping techniques that shift from delicate to dynamic. His sound carries nostalgia and modernity in equal measure, delivered with a timeless storyteller’s touch.
